THE Golden Age of Baseball is a project that has been in the works for nearly 4 months.
After a few attempts at other online historical leagues, which I mostly found unfulfilling
due to their historical inaccuracies, I decided to make what I hope will be the most
historically accurate online league in ootp. In most historic leagues that use the Ankits or
Lahman Data Base, amateur players are introduced to the game in the year they APPEARED
in the major leagues, rather than the year they were actually drafted. They also appear
either major league ready, or near major league ready. All of which leads to a not very
"real" experience. After looking for ways around this, I've decided that each
year, we will "create" the real life ammy's in the year they were actually drafted.
In order to do this and not miss any players I, (with much help might I add) went back through
the 1972-1977 drafts and added all the players who were in major league systems but who HAD NOT
reached the majors by 1977. These players would have been introduced in later years in most
historical leagues, but in GABL, they are found in the minor league systems in which they belong.
Significant players such as Paul Molitor, Ozzie Smith, Tim Raines, Alan Trammell,
Rickey Henderson, Jack Morris, Wade Boggs, Lee Smith, Dale Murphy, Rick Sutcliffe, Willie Wilson
were all added to their actual teams minor league systems. This league was assembled on
an invitation only basis with only owners that I had played in other sim leagues with and
are what I consider to be the true "best of the best" of ootp. I look forward to
many exciting sim seasons as we recreate a little bit of history. And hopefully I can end
the Cubs curse a little earlier than...............who knows. I guess it still hasn't ended.
Welcome to GABL. Now, Lets Get it ON!!!
